What We Do

Our Mission

At Curiokits, our mission is to ensure that every student, regardless of income, has access to engaging, hands-on STEM learning. We distribute free STEM kits to schools in underserved areas, partner with teachers to support classroom implementation, and build long-term curiosity and confidence in science, technology, engineering, and math.

Why It Matters

  • In the United States, students from low-income families often have significantly less access to hands-on science labs, materials, and qualified STEM teachers than their wealthier peers.

  • For example, in schools where more than 75% of students are from low-income households, only about 44% of 4th graders have teachers who report having “all” or “most” of the resources needed to teach science. In contrast, in lower-poverty schools this number is closer to 61%.

  • Similarly, while nearly three-quarters of afterschool programs offer some STEM learning opportunities, the number of children from low-income households who participate in afterschool STEM has dropped significantly. Between 2014 and 2020, participation by low-income students fell from 4.6 million to 2.7 million, largely due to barriers like cost, transportation, and availability.

  • More than 640,000 Black, Latino, and low-income students who are academically capable are missing out on Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) STEM courses each year.
